Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen said on Saturday that peace has given the country “golden opportunities” to grow in all areas.

Samdech Hun Sen said these words at an event in Phnom Penh commemorating the 44th anniversary of Victory Day, which was attended by more than 20,000 people.

“For the past 44 years, peace has created tremendous chances for economic progress and the welfare of our people,” he remarked.

“The entire national force, unified around the royal government, has firmly protected peace, political stability, and security, which are the foundations for the development and peaceful lives of the people.”

The prime minister of Cambodia said that the last 44 years had been marked by national unity, heroic struggle, and victory.

“Our struggle has transformed the country from a land of the dead into a land of magnificent progress and enormous pride.”

He stated that the fight against the deadly COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 had been successful due to good leadership, the implementation of sharp strategies and actions, and the participation of the common people.

With this success, the Southeast Asian nation’s economy has rebounded quickly, he said, adding that growth is expected to grow from 5.5% in 2022 to 6.6% in 2023.

In the meantime, Samdech Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s position on international cooperation, saying that the nation upholds the rule of law and a multilateral system in an atmosphere of transparency, fairness, and openness to ensure peacebuilding, stability, development, and an improvement in people’s quality of life.
