H.E. Samheng Bora, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce and Chairman of the Export Promotion Task Force, has engaged in high-level discussions with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under India’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry, along with five major Indian cashew buyers. The talks aimed to explore opportunities for expanding Cambodia’s cashew exports to India and global markets.
The meeting, held on February 23 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, focused on Cambodia’s cashew production capacity, quality standards, and export potential. Indian buyers expressed strong interest in both raw cashew nuts and processed kernels, recognizing Cambodia’s reputation for producing large-size kernels with a distinctive flavor profile that appeals to consumers.
Beyond immediate trade opportunities, the discussions also explored strategies to enhance Cambodia’s cashew export sector and add greater value through processing and direct trade partnerships.
In 2023, Cambodia produced 850,000 tonnes of cashew nuts, marking a 26.8 percent increase from the previous year. Of this, 815,000 tonnes were exported, reflecting a 31 percent growth, according to the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia.
