In a significant address to journalists at the 6th meeting held at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet called for high standards in journalism, emphasizing the importance of accuracy and ethical reporting.

During his speech, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the critical role of journalists in shaping public perception and the responsibility that comes with it. He urged journalists, whether licensed or unlicensed, to commit to providing authentic and well-researched information. “It is our desire to provide genuine information from all perspectives,” said Hun Manet. He highlighted the importance of not overstepping journalistic boundaries into judicial areas by making premature judgments.

The Prime Minister stressed the necessity of comprehensive research and a balanced view in reporting. “We may not have every detail at all times, but thorough investigation and consideration of various perspectives are crucial,” he advised. This approach should guide the journalistic process, especially in an era where information is rapidly disseminated and can have extensive impact.

Moreover, Hun Manet called for a clear ethical stance in journalism, where honesty should prevail regardless of the nature of the information being reported. He encouraged journalists to maintain integrity and strive for thoroughness in their investigations, ensuring that all reporting contributes positively to society and informed public discourse.

This meeting underscores the government’s commitment to supporting responsible journalism and its role in fostering a well-informed public. It reflects a broader push within Cambodia to strengthen media practices in the face of growing digital information streams and the challenges they present.
