Cambodia exported approximately 651,000 tonnes of milled rice to international markets in 2024, reflecting a slight decrease of 0.7 percent from 656,000 tonnes in 2023, according to a report from the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF). However, the Kingdom’s rice export earnings surged to US$491 million, marking a 5.3 percent increase from the US$466 million generated the previous year.
Cambodian milled rice reached 68 destinations globally in 2024. Europe remained the primary market, importing 327,156 tonnes valued at US$253 million. ASEAN markets followed with 127,076 tonnes worth US$92 million, while China imported 117,925 tonnes valued at US$75 million. An additional 79,365 tonnes were shipped to other destinations, generating a total of US$69 million.
The exported rice varieties included fragrant rice, organic rice, white rice, parboiled rice, and japonica rice, reflecting Cambodia’s diverse rice production capabilities.
In addition to milled rice, Cambodia also exported 5.1 million tonnes of paddy rice in 2024, earning US$1,496 million.
The Royal Government of Cambodia continues to support the rice sector through infrastructure development, technical assistance for farmers, and efforts to strengthen the Cambodian rice brand internationally. Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has praised the Cambodia Rice Federation for its collaboration with the government in advancing the rice sector.
Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the critical role of agriculture in improving livelihoods and driving Cambodia’s socio-economic development. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing rice as a long-term strategic crop for the country and stressed the importance of implementing policies to support rice cultivation and ensure competitiveness. These include building infrastructure to reduce production costs, promoting domestic supply chain ownership, and expanding export channels to markets with higher added value.
He further encouraged the Cambodia Rice Federation to strengthen collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions to boost direct rice exports.
Cambodia’s premium aromatic rice, Malys Angkor (Phka Romdoul), continued to receive global acclaim, winning the World’s Best Rice Award at the World Rice Conference in Manila, Philippines, in 2024. This marks another victory for Cambodia, which previously secured the title in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, and 2022.
