Minister of Mines and Energy, Suy Sem, stressed the importance of developing a robust policy framework, building stakeholder capacity, raising awareness, and supporting private sector investments.
Cambodia’s focus on renewable energy sources has led to a promising collaboration with Singapore. In a deal still under negotiation, Singapore plans to import 1 GW of renewable energy annually from Cambodia. This partnership would make up a quarter of Singapore’s low-carbon electricity imports by 2035, positioning Cambodia as a major clean energy exporter in the region.
Minister of Environment Say Sam Al highlighted the benefits of prioritizing renewable energy sources, which include competitive economic advantages, mitigating the impact of climate change, and promoting sustainable development. Cambodia’s commitment to energy efficiency and clean technology creates new economic opportunities and improves citizens’ well-being.
