The Ministry of Tourism (MoT), in collaboration with the Siem Reap Provincial Administration, organized the ‘Siem Reap-Angkor International Arts Performance’ on Saturday to showcase Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage and strengthen its position as a global tourism destination.
The event brought together artists from five countries—Cambodia, Indonesia, China, the Philippines, and India—offering a vibrant display of traditions, history, and artistic diversity. It aimed to promote Siem Reap as a must-visit destination, particularly to boost tourism at the iconic Angkor World Heritage Site.
The opening ceremony was held at the park in front of the Royal Residence in Siem Reap province. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, and Ngov Sengkak, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap province, presided over the event, which was attended by monks, the Secretary of State, embassy representatives, provincial council members, leaders of various departments, and members of the Union of Cambodian Youth Federations, Cambodia’s Red Cross Youth, Scouts, teachers, and students.
The event highlighted the rich cultural diversity of Cambodia and the broader ASEAN region, reinforcing the importance of cultural exchange and global promotion. Minister Hak emphasized that the Siem Reap-Angkor International Arts Performance played a key role in promoting Cambodian culture, traditions, and tourism potential to both local and international audiences.
Hak expressed confidence that increased involvement from stakeholders in promoting Cambodia’s arts and culture will significantly enhance the country’s appeal to global tourists, particularly to the Angkor World Heritage Site. He noted that the event supports multiple objectives, including strengthening Cambodia’s art and cultural sector, fostering cultural exchange, enhancing international relations, and boosting tourism.
The event also helped build people-to-people connections, reinforcing the link between arts, culture, and tradition while attracting both tourists and potential investors to Cambodia. Minister Hak highlighted the Ministry of Tourism’s six pillars of cooperation and the ongoing campaign: ‘Together for Tourism, Tourism for All! Tourism Grows in Peace! Everyone is a Cambodian Tourism Promoter!’
Deputy Governor Sengkak underscored the significance of the event in promoting Siem Reap as a global tourism destination. He highlighted the diverse lineup of performances, which included the Milk Sea Stirring Dance, Nostalgia, Khmer Krama Dance, and Ancestral Heritage Dance. Traditional musical instruments and songs were also featured, conveying meaningful narratives and capturing the vibrancy of Cambodian culture.
Sengkak emphasized that the participation of both Cambodian and international artists, including those from the EU, reflects Cambodia’s strong cultural ties with global partners. He noted that such events play a vital role in preserving and promoting Khmer traditions while reinforcing Cambodia’s status as a leading cultural and tourism destination.
