In an exciting development for Cambodia’s sustainable energy ambitions, renowned French firm, The Blue Circle, celebrated for its pioneering contributions to wind power generation, is poised to make substantial investments in Cambodia’s burgeoning wind energy sector. Recognizing the nation’s immense potential in renewable energy, The Blue Circle’s strategic vision aligns perfectly with Cambodia’s commitment to greener and cleaner energy solutions.

The critical step towards this promising collaboration unfolded during a historic meeting held in the heart of Paris. President and Chief Executive Officer of The Blue Circle, Olivier Duguet, led a delegation from the company to engage in discussions with Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet. The fruitful encounter took place on a significant Monday, marking the dawn of a new era for Cambodia’s energy landscape.

Olivier Duguet’s presentation to Prime Minister Hun Manet laid bare The Blue Circle’s enthusiastic pursuit of opportunities within the wind energy sector across various Asian countries, Cambodia being a prominent contender. The collaborative spirit was palpable as The Blue Circle explored prospects of partnering with local entities to undertake an extensive feasibility study in Cambodia.

Duguet unveiled encouraging findings during the meeting, emphasizing that Cambodia boasts locations with ideal wind conditions for power generation. Two particularly promising sites have captured The Blue Circle’s attention: one perched majestically atop Bokor Mountain in Kampot province, and the other nestled amidst the serene landscapes of Mondulkiri province.

The wind energy potential at these sites is nothing short of remarkable. The Blue Circle envisions an initial phase of producing a staggering 100 megawatts of electricity, with expansion prospects on the horizon. This ambitious venture is poised to significantly contribute to Cambodia’s clean energy goals.

The Blue Circle’s message to Cambodia was clear – they seek the support and collaboration of relevant partners within the country. Furthermore, they emphasized the importance of securing the Royal Government’s backing for this groundbreaking wind power project. Olivier Duguet underscored the significance of Cambodia’s journey towards harnessing renewable energy sources, predicting a future where Cambodia not only satisfies its energy needs sustainably but also becomes a regional exporter of electricity.

Prime Minister Hun Manet warmly applauded The Blue Circle’s investment project plan and pledged unwavering support. He encouraged the company to work closely with local partners, relevant ministries, and institutions in Cambodia to explore the potential for wind-powered electricity projects. The Prime Minister’s guidance set the stage for a collaborative effort that promises to yield fruitful results.

Highlighting the magnitude of this endeavor, The Blue Circle signed a memorandum of understanding with Cambodia’s Royal Group on January 15th in Paris. The company’s existing investments in wind farms in Thailand and Vietnam showcase their commitment to promoting clean energy solutions across Southeast Asia. This aligns seamlessly with Cambodia’s government commitment to boost clean energy, evident through the transition of coal-fired power plant projects into biomass power plants and the stringent ban on new coal-fired power plant proposals.

Cambodia’s steadfast shift towards renewable energy is indeed remarkable, with more than 62 percent of the country’s total energy consumption now sourced from clean, renewable options, according to Minister of Mines and Energy Keo Rattanak. The world recognizes Cambodia’s achievements in transitioning away from fossil fuels and embracing renewable energy sources, including hydropower, wind, solar energy, and biomass energy.

In conclusion, The Blue Circle’s strategic investments in Cambodia’s wind energy sector represent a significant leap towards a sustainable and clean energy future. As the nation continues to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and foster environmentally responsible energy solutions, collaborations like these offer a ray of hope for Cambodia’s citizens and the global community striving for a cleaner and greener world. With visionary investments from companies like The Blue Circle, Cambodia is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
