Wing Bank has introduced a financing program offering up to $200,000 in collateral-free loans to support climate-resilient agriculture in Cambodia. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, aiming to help farmers adapt to changing climate conditions and improve productivity.
The program focuses on providing accessible capital to farmers, agricultural communities, and agribusinesses, enabling them to invest in modern technologies that can mitigate climate-related risks.
Focus on Technology and Sustainable Farming
The financing scheme is designed to encourage the adoption of climate-smart agricultural solutions. These include tools and systems that improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and strengthen resilience against unpredictable weather patterns.
Technologies supported under the program include:
- Smart irrigation systems
- Advanced drying and storage solutions
- Integrated farming techniques
- Renewable energy applications in agriculture
Such technologies aim to reduce operational costs while increasing output and long-term sustainability.
Target Regions and Accessibility
The loan program is being rolled out across five key agricultural provinces:
- Prey Veng
- Takeo
- Kampong Thom
- Kampong Chhnang
- Battambang
Farmers in these regions can access financing without collateral, with competitive interest rates and no hidden charges.
Workshops have also been conducted to guide farmers on application processes and effective use of modern farming technologies.
Policy Alignment and National Goals
The initiative aligns with Cambodia’s broader climate and agricultural strategies, including efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance food security. Officials highlighted that increasing access to financing is critical to achieving national sustainability targets.
The program also supports Cambodia’s commitment to reducing emissions by 55% by 2035 under its national climate framework.
