Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia has outlined six key recommendations aimed at enhancing education and transparency within the Cambodian Muslim community.
Addressing attendees at the 2024 Ramadan Iftar dinner in Phnom Penh, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the importance of concerted efforts to uplift and empower Cambodian Muslims. The recommendations put forth by the Prime Minister underscore a commitment to fostering unity, cooperation, and development within the community.
Outlined below are the six recommendations proposed by Prime Minister Hun Manet:
- Promotion of Interfaith Harmony: Leaders within the Muslim community are encouraged to foster collaborative and harmonious relationships with other religious groups, both domestically and internationally. This entails prioritizing principles of racial harmony and mutual respect.
- Collaborative Religious Leadership: Emphasizing the pivotal role of religious leaders, the Prime Minister advocates for close coordination between Islamic leaders and relevant government bodies such as the Ministry of Cults and Religions. This collaboration aims to effectively address the religious needs of Cambodia’s Muslim population.
- Facilitation of Educational Infrastructure: Government authorities are urged to facilitate the construction of educational institutions and Surau mosques for Cambodian Muslims. Strict adherence to regulations regarding the establishment of religious sites in Muslim-populated areas, in alignment with Islamic law, is emphasized.
- Expansion of Social Initiatives: Prime Minister Hun Manet highlights the significance of engaging in social initiatives encompassing humanitarian aid, educational endeavors, community development, and religious activities. These endeavors should be rooted in Islamic principles and aligned with constitutional values.
- Confidence in Government Leadership: The Prime Minister calls upon the Muslim community to place trust in the leadership of the Royal Government, which is committed to upholding religious freedoms and fostering unity among diverse faiths within Cambodia.
- International Collaboration for Development: Efforts to garner international support and resources for the development of Cambodia’s Muslim community are encouraged. However, it is stressed that such collaborations should be conducted with integrity, steering clear of commercial exploitation of religion and addressing internal challenges within the community.
