(Phnom Penh, June 4, 2025) – In a significant step towards strengthening Cambodia’s export capabilities and fostering agro-industrial growth, the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany have officially launched the EU-Cambodia Business Partnership Facility. The initiative, co-developed with Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, is designed to support Cambodian businesses in accessing European and other international markets, especially in the areas of agro-processing and food innovation.
Up to $50,000 in Co-Funding and Expert Support
Launched on June 2, the EU-Cambodia Business Partnership Facility offers up to $50,000 in co-funding per project. Alongside financial assistance, participating enterprises will benefit from technical mentorship, export-readiness training, innovation support, and business development guidance.
According to an EU press release, the program is ideal for Cambodian enterprises seeking to expand their processing capabilities, modernize operations, or enter international markets. “Whether you’re looking to expand your processing, adopt modern practices or go global,” the release noted, “the Partnership offers expert guidance, tailored mentorship and access to export-readiness support.”
Elevating Cambodian Products in Global Markets
Speaking at the launch event, EU Ambassador to Cambodia Igor Driesmans emphasized the European Union’s commitment to elevating Cambodian products on the international stage.
“We, the EU and Germany, are working together to unlock Cambodia’s untapped potential in agro-processing, food innovation and the export of high-quality, value-added products,” he said. “We want to see more Cambodian products on European shelves, in European restaurants and featured in European food fairs — not just as commodities, but as symbols of quality, innovation and pride.”
The program particularly aims to help local businesses meet EU market standards, while showcasing Cambodia’s cultural identity and creativity through its products.
Strengthening International Trade Bridges
Gidon Windecker, Deputy Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy in Phnom Penh, highlighted the strategic nature of the program.
“Through technical expertise, compliance with international standards and business matchmaking, we’re building bridges that connect Cambodian and European enterprises,” he stated. “This effort strengthens supply chains and integrates Cambodia into global markets.”
The initiative is expected to play a transformative role by addressing key constraints that have previously limited Cambodia’s ability to fully engage in value-added exports, especially in agriculture.
Government Backs Export Transformation
Samheng Bora, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, reiterated the government’s support for the initiative. He explained that the program aligns with Cambodia’s export development goals and seeks to enhance the global competitiveness of Cambodian businesses.
“These projects are designed to empower Cambodian businesses by strengthening product development, elevating export standards and fostering market linkages with Europe, ASEAN and beyond,” Bora said.
He also announced the launch of two new strategic platforms under the partnership: the Export Lab and the Agri-Innovation Lab. These initiatives will serve as platforms to support SMEs through technical assistance, skills training, advisory services, and market intelligence, all critical tools for navigating international export standards.
Call to Action for Cambodian Enterprises
The Ministry of Commerce has called on Cambodian enterprises—particularly those in agriculture, food processing, and innovation sectors—to actively participate in the program. Emphasis was placed on improving technical capacity, consistent product quality, market-ready packaging, and creative branding.
“These are key elements for success in international trade fairs and for elevating the global presence of ‘Products of Cambodia,’” Bora stated.
