Phnom Penh — Cambodia’s Digital Social Protection Platform has been widely recognized for its pioneering role in transforming the country’s social protection system through digital innovation, according to government and media reports. The system earned a Gold Medal in the Public Sector category at the ASEAN Digital Awards 2026, highlighting Cambodia’s commitment to modernizing public services using advanced technologies.
The award ceremony took place in Vietnam during the 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN 2026), which brought together digital ministers and delegates from ASEAN member states alongside dialogue partners including the United States, China, Japan and India, as well as representatives from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The recognition underscores the Digital Social Protection Platform’s regional standing in public sector digital transformation efforts.
Developed by the General Secretariat of the National Social Protection Council under the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the platform serves as an integrated digital system that helps register and verify the identities of targeted citizens and beneficiaries within Cambodia’s social protection framework. Authorities said it improves accuracy, efficiency and accessibility of services for vulnerable populations.
Officials attending the awards noted that the platform’s success was the result of sustained efforts to modernize Cambodia’s public service delivery and reflect best practices in digital governance. Through streamlined digital processes, the system aims to support policymakers in delivering more inclusive and effective social protection interventions across national and local levels.
The ASEAN Digital Awards ceremony evaluated entries from all 11 ASEAN member states across six categories, including digital innovation and inclusivity. Cambodia’s gold-medal achievement in the public sector category highlights its capacity to leverage digital tools for administrative and social welfare improvements.
The award comes amid broader regional emphasis on digital transformation, as governments seek to enhance service delivery, improve transparency, and expand access to benefits for citizens. Observers say Cambodia’s recognition at the ASEAN level could encourage further investment and collaboration in digital public services.
