Pursat — Labour Minister Heng Sour has announced the creation of 4,000 job opportunities for former migrant workers returning to Cambodia, following consultations with local authorities and employment stakeholders in Pursat province this week. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to support reintegration and expand workforce engagement for job seekers throughout the Kingdom.
During a meeting in Pursat City, Minister Heng Sour outlined plans to connect returning migrant workers with potential employers in sectors including construction, services, manufacturing and agriculture. The opportunities are intended to address employment needs and help former migrant workers secure stable livelihoods at home rather than seeking overseas work.
Officials said the job openings were generated through collaboration between the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, provincial departments and private-sector partners. Skills assessment services and vocational guidance will be made available to prospective applicants to help match their competencies with employer requirements.
In remarks to local media, Heng Sour emphasized the importance of supporting returning migrants with employment pathways that contribute to national development while reducing dependence on foreign job markets. Authorities said the initiative reflects broader government efforts to strengthen domestic labour participation and improve socioeconomic conditions for Cambodian workers.
Provincial officials noted that the newly announced positions include both skilled and unskilled jobs, with additional support mechanisms such as on-the-job training and workplace readiness programs planned in the coming months. Workforce development programs are expected to complement ongoing national and provincial employment strategies.
The initiative also includes regular monitoring of job placements to ensure sustainability and adherence to labour standards. Authorities said they will continue to engage with employers and workers to address emerging workforce needs and adjust employment services accordingly.
The announcement in Pursat follows similar employment drives in other provinces, reflecting a nationwide focus on expanding labour opportunities and supporting returning migrant workers in Cambodia.
Representatives from both governments met in Phnom Penh to review progress on key agreements signed in previous high-level visits. Officials outlined their commitment to accelerate joint activities linked to trade facilitation, border management, investment promotion and connectivity infrastructure — areas seen as central to deepening bilateral ties.
The two sides also discussed avenues to enhance cooperation in agriculture, tourism and human resource development. Cambodian authorities noted the importance of strengthening institutional coordination to ensure that joint programs are implemented efficiently and aligned with both nations’ development priorities.
Officials said that discussions included measures to streamline border procedures, improve customs cooperation and facilitate cross-border movement of goods and people, in line with agreements under the Cambodia-Vietnam Joint Committee framework. Talks also touched upon mechanisms to attract investment from private sectors and expand trade flows between the two economies.
Vietnam and Cambodia share extensive land borders and have maintained longstanding diplomatic and economic relations. The acceleration of high-level agreements is expected to support regional integration efforts and contribute to broader development objectives under ASEAN cooperation frameworks. Both sides reaffirmed mutual respect for sovereignty, peaceful coexistence and enhanced people-to-people ties during the discussions.
Delegates emphasized that consistent implementation of bilateral pacts could improve business confidence, facilitate public-sector coordination and support infrastructure connectivity. Observers said that stronger bilateral cooperation aligns with efforts to bolster economic resilience and competitiveness in Southeast Asia’s dynamic regional landscape.
