Phnom Penh, Cambodia – The Malaysian Business Chamber in Cambodia (MBCC) marked the start of the Year of the Fire Horse with an event that emphasized economic cooperation and business reform, highlighting new opportunities and shared goals for the coming year.
The Year of the Fire Horse, which began on February 17, 2026, and will extend through February 5, 2027, is a rare occurrence in the Chinese zodiac cycle, appearing only once every 60 years. The event took place at the Grand Ballroom of NagaWorld in Phnom Penh, drawing members of the chamber, diplomats, and representatives from the business community.
MBCC’s leadership underscored the significance of the Fire Horse year as symbolic of energy, courage and forward momentum for businesses operating in Cambodia. Officials reiterated the chamber’s dedication to strengthening ASEAN economic ties and fostering a favourable environment for investment.
A key theme of the celebration was the call for reform in regulatory frameworks to support both local and foreign enterprises. Representatives highlighted the need for enhanced transparency, greater dialogue between the private sector and government stakeholders, and streamlined procedures to facilitate business growth and competitiveness within the region.
Diplomats in attendance praised the chamber’s role in promoting multicultural partnerships and collaboration. Many noted that events like this not only celebrate cultural milestones but also create platforms for addressing economic challenges and exploring new avenues for trade and industry cooperation.
The MBCC event also featured cultural performances and symbolic observances tied to the Fire Horse year, reflecting a blend of traditional celebrations and forward-looking business aspirations. Attendees reaffirmed their commitment to inclusive growth and constructive engagement throughout 2026, a year anticipated to bring fresh momentum to Cambodia’s expanding economy.
