Cambodia is accelerating its economic diversification strategy by actively courting South Korean capital for its high-value, tech-driven sectors. Moving away from its traditional economic reliance on garments, footwear, and labor-intensive manufacturing, the Royal Government of Cambodia is pitching itself as an emerging hub for automotive components, electric vehicle (EV) systems, and digital healthcare technology.
This strategic push took center stage during an official investment promotion mission to South Korea led by Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, who serves as the first vice-chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC). The high-level delegation executed a targeted “door-knock mission” on June 16, consisting of factory inspections, corporate meetings, and the high-profile 2026 Incheon-Cambodia Investment Roadshow.
Leveraging Existing Partnerships to Build EV Supply Chains
Rather than solely chasing new market players, Cambodia is strategically using the long-standing presence of established South Korean manufacturers to prove its readiness for complex manufacturing. The delegation visited prominent industrial players to encourage expansion into advanced mobility solutions.

During a meeting with the management of Daejoo KC Group, Chanthol presented fresh investment opportunities, urging the conglomerate to expand its current footprint into other sectors it operates back home, including metallurgy, chemicals, and energy.
Later that day, the delegation inspected the operations of Kyungshin Co., Ltd., a global leader in automotive electronic components that manufactures wiring harnesses, connectors, and electrical systems specifically for electric vehicles. By highlighting Kyungshin’s successful, capital-intensive manufacturing base in Kandal province, Cambodian officials presented a concrete case study to the broader South Korean business community that the Kingdom can successfully sustain precision automotive electronics and smart mobility production.
Expanding Horizons into Digital Healthcare and Premium Services
The economic mission made it clear that Cambodia is pursuing high-end service industries and comprehensive technology transfers alongside manufacturing plants. The delegation held crucial discussions with South Korea’s trade minister and visited Incheon Baek Hospital to study advanced medical technologies and digital healthcare management structures.
“We requested the hospital management to consider the possibility of providing technical assistance, as well as transferring knowledge and advanced medical technologies through training programmes and exchanges of experience between medical specialists of both countries,” stated Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, emphasizing that international-standard medical infrastructure is a top public priority.
The delegation also toured Emons Furniture Co., Ltd.‘s showroom to study advanced manufacturing designs. The highly coordinated mission effectively aligned diplomacy, public policy, and private investment by bringing together the Cambodian ambassador to South Korea, CDC and Ministry of Commerce officials, the Cambodian Oknha Association, and the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce.
Legislative Incentives and Future Infrastructure Challenges
At the Incheon-Cambodia Investment Roadshow—organized alongside the Incheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry—Chanthol reassured attendees of the reliable investment protection mechanisms guaranteed under the new “Law on Investment of the Kingdom of Cambodia.” Under this regulatory framework, international investors receive attractive fiscal benefits, customized incentive packages, and macroeconomic stability.
While the legal and fiscal frameworks are highly competitive, market analysts note that transitioning to a tech-heavy economy presents structural hurdles. Unlike basic garment assembly, sectors like EV electronics require:
- A highly trained, specialized technical workforce.
- Uninterrupted, heavy-duty industrial power infrastructure.
- Stringent quality control protocols and deeply integrated, reliable logistics networks.
By building on the foundations laid by existing corporate partners, Cambodia aims to climb the global value chain, ensuring its next wave of economic growth brings higher productivity, stronger regional supply links, and advanced technical skills to the domestic workforce.
