Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, alongside a high-level official delegation, departed Phnom Penh on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. The delegation is traveling to the Russian Federation to participate in the prestigious ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit.
The diplomatic mission takes place in Kazan from June 17 to 18, 2026. Furthermore, the premier’s high-profile attendance follows a formal, direct invitation from the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
Celebrating 35 Years of Strategic Dialogue Relations
The high-level gathering in Kazan carries immense diplomatic weight as it officially marks the 35th Anniversary of ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Relations. Consequently, international delegates view the event as an essential opportunity to review existing frameworks and chart the future course for advancing the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership.
According to a press release issued by Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on June 15, 2026, the attending world leaders will exchange views on critical regional and international issues. Ultimately, these high-level conversations aim to build common ground, solve emerging geopolitical challenges, and actively promote peace, stability, and economic prosperity both within Southeast Asia and globally.
Expanding Bilateral Ties and Economic Cooperation
Beyond the main assembly, Prime Minister Hun Manet has scheduled an extensive itinerary of side events and multilateral discussions. Specifically, he will lead the Cambodian delegation at the concurrent Russia-ASEAN Business Forum, which is being held as a core side event at the Bashir Rameev IT Park.
The premier is accompanied by an influential circle of state officials and private sector leaders:
- Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation
- Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport
- Various senior government ministers and institutional officials
- A business delegation led by Cambodia Chamber of Commerce Vice President Tan Monivann
These side interactions are designed to further enhance Cambodia’s bilateral and multilateral relations. By connecting directly with regional counterparts, the Cambodian delegation aims to promote direct investment, trade, and development cooperation in areas of shared economic interest and mutual benefit.
