BEIJING — Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) Sun Chanthol has encouraged the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to expand its investment footprint in Cambodia. Specifically, he urged the company to target high value-added sectors that directly support economic diversification and job creation.
The call took place during a high-profile working discussion on Monday with CCECC President Wang Xiangdong. The meeting was a key part of the Cambodian delegation’s official working visit to Beijing, China. Notably, Minister of Public Works and Transport Peng Ponea also accompanied the Deputy Prime Minister to the talks.
Advancing Transport Modernization and Infrastructure
During the session, Wang expressed his appreciation to the Cambodian leaders for the collaborative opportunity. He subsequently outlined CCECC’s extensive expertise as one of China’s leading state-owned enterprises. The company specializes heavily in large-scale infrastructure projects worldwide. Furthermore, Wang highlighted their deep experience in building roads, bridges, railways, airports, and industrial parks.
Additionally, Wang provided a crucial update on CCECC’s current transport modernization initiatives in Cambodia. He noted that the company’s comprehensive feasibility studies are now nearing completion. This rapid progress is the direct result of close cooperation with Cambodian authorities.
Aligning with the Pentagonal Strategy for Economic Growth
In response, Chanthol warmly welcomed CCECC’s continued commitment to Cambodia’s infrastructure development. He stated that the Cambodian government eagerly anticipates reviewing the official feasibility study. Once the company submits the report, officials will carefully consider the next steps.
Furthermore, Chanthol actively pushed the state-owned enterprise to look beyond traditional infrastructure. He encouraged CCECC to explore priority, high-value fields that can offer long-term economic benefits. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, these strategic investments will heavily support the Cambodian government’s overarching Pentagonal Strategy. Ultimately, this cooperation will drive sustainable economic development and generate valuable employment opportunities for citizens.
