PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA — The Embassy of India in Phnom Penh recently hosted a send-off interaction for 30 Cambodian educators and officials. This group of professionals is traveling to India for an advanced technical capacity-building course. Specifically, the cohort includes teachers and administrative staff from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS).
The group will attend a specialized Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) training programme. The course is titled “A Framework for Integrating AI to Enhance STEM Education”. It will run from July 22 to August 4, 2026. Furthermore, the training will take place at the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) in Chennai, India.

H.E. Dr. SANN Vathana, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, attended the interaction. He was joined by several other prominent educational dignitaries and the training participants.
Transforming STEM Classrooms with AI
Cambodia is quickly accelerating its digital transformation. Therefore, integrating artificial intelligence into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects has become a key national goal.
The upcoming training in Chennai aims to strengthen the digital skills of Cambodian educators. Rather than focusing only on theory, the curriculum emphasizes modern, student-centered teaching methods.

Consequently, teachers will return with the skills to build modern classrooms. This training prepares Cambodian students for the growing regional digital economy.
Strengthening Bilateral Commitments and Cooperation
The Ambassador of India to Cambodia, H.E. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, addressed the delegation. During his speech, he highlighted the value of equipping teachers with cutting-edge technology.
Additionally, the Ambassador reflected on the deep civilizational ties between India and Cambodia. He reiterated India’s commitment to helping the Kingdom build its human resource capacity. He expressed strong confidence that this training will improve education outcomes in Cambodia. Finally, he urged the participants to act as bridges of friendship between the two countries.
The Growth of ITEC in Cambodia
The Government of India launched the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program in 1964. Today, it remains India’s primary platform for technical cooperation with partner nations.
Cambodia continues to benefit greatly from this initiative:
- First, more than 3,300 Cambodian nationals have participated in ITEC programs since 1981.
- Second, India continues to allocate 300 fully funded training slots to Cambodia every year.
This latest training group marks a shift toward high-tech education. This strategy directly supports Cambodia’s national goals for future development.
