MANILA — Highlighting the critical role of gender-inclusive growth, Cambodia advocated for enhanced market access, financial inclusion, and digital participation for women at the recent 4th ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit held in Manila, Philippines.
Representing the Kingdom, Koung Sorita, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, underscored the importance of integrating women deeper into regional trade, employment, and technology frameworks.
Empowering MSMEs and Bridging Economic Gaps
Discussions during the summit drew attention to the over 60 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across ASEAN that are owned or managed by women. Despite their immense contribution to regional economies, women entrepreneurs continue to face structural hurdles regarding capital access, digital skills, and broader market integration.
Cambodia’s delegation stressed that advancing women’s participation in entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and economic decision-making is essential for sustainable development. The summit called for unified regional action to provide young women with robust training, mentorship, and expanded career pathways in STEM, digital innovation, and public service.
