In a significant move towards promoting sustainable transportation and reducing emissions, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Suy Sem, recently presided over the inauguration of a new electric motorcycle assembly plant in Kandal province, Cambodia. The ceremony, held on May 26, celebrated the collaboration between the energy ministry and Verywords Co., Ltd., a Korean-owned company, in their efforts to advance the use of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country.
Minister Sem expressed his gratitude to Verywords Co., Ltd. for their cooperation with the energy ministry, particularly in the field of solar energy. He acknowledged the company’s commitment to a five-year capacity building project from 2021 to 2025, as well as their active promotion of EVs. Highlighting the company’s contributions to Cambodia’s economic development, he emphasized that the establishment of the electric motorcycle assembly plant aligns with the Industrial Development Policy 2015-25 and the National Policy on Energy Efficiency 2022-30.
“We hope that the company will continue to work closely with the ministry and all relevant institutions to promote the use of EVs throughout the Kingdom,” Minister Sem remarked, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing sustainable transportation options.
Furthermore, Minister Sem applauded Verywords Co., Ltd. for its support of the ministry’s human resource development program. As part of their commitment, the company generously donated a total of 16 electric motorcycles and three charging kiosks to the ministry. These donations include two charging kiosks installed at the ministry headquarters and one operational at the Siem Reap provincial energy department.
The significance of the new electric motorcycle assembly plant extends beyond the cooperation between the ministry and Verywords Co., Ltd. Deputy Kandal provincial governor Nou Peng Chandara expressed his congratulations to the firm, acknowledging the positive impact it will have on the local economy. The factory’s opening is expected to create numerous job opportunities for the people of Kandal province, contributing to poverty reduction initiatives in the region.
Additionally, Chandara highlighted the environmental benefits of producing and utilizing electric motorcycles. By reducing emissions, these vehicles align with both provincial and national frameworks, while also playing a crucial role in safeguarding the environment.
The inauguration of the electric motorcycle assembly plant marks a milestone in Cambodia’s journey towards sustainable transportation and emission reduction. With the support of companies like Verywords Co., Ltd., the nation is actively embracing the use of EVs, demonstrating its commitment to a cleaner and greener future.
