H.E. Rath Saravuth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, welcomed H.E. Jimmy Panetta, United States Representative from the Democratic Party, along with his delegation during their official visit to Cambodia on February 17.
During the courtesy meeting, both sides discussed trade relations and cooperation between Cambodia and the United States. H.E. Rath Saravuth highlighted Cambodia’s economic progress, investment potential, and ongoing trade opportunities, emphasizing the government’s efforts to enhance trade facilitation and expand market access.
He underscored Cambodia’s active participation in regional and global trade agreements aimed at driving economic growth and attracting international investment. The Secretary of State also reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to fostering a more competitive and dynamic trade environment.
The United States remains Cambodia’s largest export market, particularly for key sectors such as garments, footwear, and travel goods. In 2024, Cambodia exported nearly $10 billion worth of products to the U.S., reflecting an 11% increase from the previous year, according to the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia.
Major Cambodian exports to the U.S. include apparel, clothing accessories, leather goods, travel goods, handbags, electrical machinery, and footwear. Meanwhile, Cambodia imports vehicles, machinery, mechanical appliances, medical equipment, and pharmaceutical products from the U.S.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong trade partnership between the two nations, with both sides expressing optimism about further enhancing economic collaboration in the future.
