In a recent meeting held in Melbourne, Cambodia has extended an invitation to the Australian business and investment community, urging them to amplify their involvement in sectors recognized for their high value-addition potential. These sectors, including agriculture and agro-processing, logistics, e-commerce, and digital technology, are identified as critical for the economic advancement of Cambodia as per the Royal Government’s strategy.
The call was made by Ms. Cham Nimul, the Cambodian Minister of Commerce, during her discussions with Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, Australia’s Assistant Minister for Trade and Assistant Minister for Manufacturing. This meeting was part of Ms. Nimul’s itinerary as she accompanied Prime Minister Hun Manet to the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, marking the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations.
The dialogue between the two officials was centered on fortifying the economic ties and collaborative efforts between Cambodia and Australia. Minister Nimul highlighted the significant contribution of the private sectors from both nations to Cambodia’s economic landscape, particularly emphasizing the role in job creation, trade, and the diversification of industries within Cambodia.
The discussion also ventured into strategies for elevating the existing commercial engagements and bilateral trade activities to new levels. Both representatives emphasized the critical role of executing agreements under the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), seeing them as pivotal frameworks to enhance economic cooperation and integration within the region.
