New Facilities Enhance Early Years Education in the City

The Canadian International School of Phnom Penh (CIS) is delighted to announce the forthcoming expansion of its Bassac Garden Campus. Situated on a serene and verdant side street, this campus caters to children between the ages of 18 months and 4 years. The construction is expected to be completed by August 2024.

The expanded campus will encompass an area of 1,000 square meters and will feature a multi-storey building equipped with 12 distinct learning spaces, covered outdoor play areas, and newly cultivated gardens.

Zak Garofolo, Campus Development Director, shared insights into the architectural firm’s approach: “The design concept, developed by WISE, has emphasized accessibility and environmental elements. Through the incorporation of natural ventilation systems and abundant greenery, we have prioritized the overall well-being of young children.”

Karen Holmes, Early Years Program Director, expressed enthusiasm about the intentional expansion of the campus. “The newly created light-filled and airy communal spaces, both indoors and outdoors, will foster communication, exploration, and collaborative play among the children,” said Holmes. “We have meticulously designed the campus expansion to provide an enriched learning environment, and we cannot wait to share it with the Phnom Penh community.”

Conveniently located near the Embassy of Japan, just off Norodom Blvd., the Bassac Garden Campus offers ease of access for morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups. Furthermore, children enrolled in the Early Years Program can smoothly transition to the Elementary School at the nearby Koh Pich Campus, which is only a 5-minute drive away.

Leah Dushenski, Head of School, eagerly anticipates welcoming new families to CIS. “The Early Years phase is a critical period in every child’s educational journey. We take immense pride in offering a high-quality Canadian educational program delivered by qualified teachers. The expansion of the Bassac Garden Campus will provide CIS families with young children a distinct advantage.”

Empowering Global Minds, Inspiring Excellence: Your Pathway to World-Class Education at CIS

Established in 2012, the Canadian International School of Phnom Penh (CIS) has steadily grown into a diverse community of nearly 1,000 students, ranging from Nursery to Grade 12, representing 36 nationalities. CIS operates three centrally located campuses with state-of-the-art facilities, centrally situated in the heart of Phnom Penh.

CIS is committed to delivering outstanding international education. With a team of over 120 highly skilled educators, it follows the Alberta (Canadian) curriculum. Accredited by Alberta Education as one of the 16 international schools, CIS boasts French and Mandarin bilingual education programs.

In 2019, it became the first school in Cambodia to be awarded the LabelFrancÉducation seal by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recognizing our exceptional French Bilingual Program. As an IB World School, CIS offers the IB Diploma Program and is currently undergoing the candidacy process for the IB Primary Years Program. Furthermore, CIS is proud members of the Council of International Schools.

CIS operates as an affiliate of the Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation, contributing to the educational development of the region.
