On October 9, the city of Vientiane, Laos, became the focal point for a significant gathering as it played host to the inauguration of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits. This assembly of leaders, marking a pivotal moment for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), aims at foregrounding discussions pertinent to the region’s future in terms of connectivity and resilience.
Presiding over the event, Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, welcomed notable dignitaries from across Southeast Asia. These leaders gathered with a common purpose, to deliberate on the progression and fortification of the ASEAN community.
Centered around the theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience,” the summits aimed to propel the ASEAN Community Vision 2025. The vision delineates a roadmap for a consolidated, coherent, and integrative ASEAN, which promotes sustained and inclusive economic progress, cultural development, and social progress. The gatherings are instrumental in fortifying ASEAN’s foundational principles and ensuring they are adapted to meet contemporary challenges and opportunities.
A key focal point of the discussions was how to augment the ASEAN’s connectivity and resilience, not just within its member states but also in its interactions with external partners.
