by TBC

In an effort to enhance regional collaboration and discuss strategies on mutual interests, His Excellency KUNG Phoak, the esteemed Secretary of State and ASEAN SOM Leader of Cambodia, engaged in a fruitful dialogue with Her Excellency Michelle Chan, Deputy Secretary and Australia’s Senior Official for ASEAN, the East Asia Summit (EAS), and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), on the 7th of June, 2024. This significant meeting took place against the backdrop of the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) and related gatherings, setting the stage for in-depth discussions on reinforcing ties and laying down future priorities.

The courtesy meeting provided an ideal platform for both parties to explore avenues of cooperation that would mutually benefit both Cambodia and Australia, particularly in the context of ASEan, EAS, and ARF engagements. With the East Asia Summit Senior Officials’ Meetings (EAS SOM) and the ASEAN Regional Forum Senior Officials’ Meetings (ARF SOM) on the horizon, the deliberation focused heavily on setting priorities that would contribute positively to the regional agenda.

Furthermore, the undoubted compatibility and shared goals of Cambodia and Australia within the regional framework were highlighted during their exchange. The dialogue underscored the importance of maintaining and strengthening the collaborative dynamics between the two nations, with a focus on promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

His Excellency KUNG Phoak and Her Excellency Michelle Chan’s meeting also underscored a commitment to enhanced cooperation, recognizing the crucial role such partnerships play in addressing common challenges faced by the region. It reflected a shared vision for a more interconnected and cooperative Asia-Pacific region, where dialogue and mutual support pave the way for sustainable development and security.

The gathering between these senior officials not only reiterated the significance of ASEAN, EAS, and ARF as pivotal platforms for regional cooperation but also marked another step forward in the robust partnership between Cambodia and Australia. As both parties look ahead, this encounter serves as a promising indicator of more collaborative efforts aimed at fostering a peaceful and prosperous regional environment.
