On the 7th of June, 2024, an event of significant diplomatic importance took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, marking the conclusion of what has been a notable chapter in the diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Bangladesh. His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, hosted a farewell gathering in honor of His Excellency Mohammed Abdul Hye, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bangladesh to the Kingdom of Cambodia, based in Bangkok.
This meeting was not just a formal farewell but also a celebration of the accomplishments and the journey that both nations had embarked upon, particularly during Ambassador Hye’s tenure. Reflecting on the diplomatic milestones, the Deputy Prime Minister reminisced about the official exchanges that bolstered the ties between the two countries, notably the visit by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, then the Prime Minister of Cambodia, to Bangladesh in 2014, followed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh’s reciprocal visit to Cambodia in 2017.
These visits were pivotal in strengthening the bilateral relationship and enhancing cooperation, laying down a solid foundation for future engagements between the two nations. The Deputy Prime Minister extended his deep gratitude towards Ambassador Hye for his fervent dedication and efforts in promoting not only bilateral relations but also close cooperation between the two nations across various spheres.
Furthermore, their discussions transcended bilateral interests, venturing into analyses of current regional and international developments. Such exchanges underline the importance of diplomatic engagements in not only fostering stronger bilateral ties but also in understanding and navigating the complex web of regional and global dynamics.
