The Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) recorded impressive financial results in the first seven months of 2025, generating over $27 million in revenue, marking a 19.64% year-on-year increase compared to the same period in 2024. According to a statement released through the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX), July alone contributed more than $5 million to the total.

Strong Growth in Port Operations

Between January and July 2025, PPAP earned approximately $27.22 million, up from $22.75 million during the same period last year. The breakdown of revenue highlights the port’s growing role in Cambodia’s trade infrastructure:

  • $22.72 million came from port operations, reflecting a 21% increase.
  • $3.72 million was generated from port authority services, up by 20%.
  • $784,024 was earned from other services, a decline of 15%.

This surge underlines the importance of PPAP as a logistics hub, particularly as Cambodia strengthens its regional and global trade links.

Trade Expansion Driving Cargo Growth

Chea Chandara, president of the Association of Freight Forwarders and Supply Chains in Cambodia, attributed the growth to heightened trade activity. He noted that the increasing intensity of both domestic and international trade has led to rising cargo volumes through both Phnom Penh Autonomous Port and Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.

He emphasized that agricultural production and manufacturing output are key drivers of this growth. With Cambodian goods receiving more international orders, exports are set to expand further.

“Generally, waterway transportation allows for higher volumes at lower costs compared to land and air transport,” Chandara said, underscoring the strategic advantage of river ports in Cambodia’s logistics network.

Year-on-Year Momentum

In 2024, PPAP generated around $41 million in revenue, reflecting a 21% increase over 2023, while container throughput grew to nearly 500,000 TEUs. The current momentum suggests that 2025 could surpass last year’s performance if trade activity remains strong.

Expanding Infrastructure Across Cambodia

PPAP currently operates seven terminals across multiple provinces, with three in Phnom Penh, two in Kandal, one in Prey Veng, and one in Tboung Khmum. These facilities are crucial for transporting agricultural products, heavy goods, and manufactured items efficiently to international markets.

By providing cost-effective and high-volume waterway transport, PPAP continues to reinforce Cambodia’s position as an emerging trade and logistics hub in the region.

Outlook

With steady growth in agricultural exports, expanding manufacturing activities, and stronger international trade links, PPAP is poised to play an even larger role in Cambodia’s economic development. Its performance in the first seven months of 2025 demonstrates resilience and potential, setting the stage for continued growth in the years ahead.
