Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen sent a message of congratulations to Senator the Honourable Sue Lines, President of the Senate of the Parliament of Australia, on the occasion of Australia Day 2026. The message reflects the continued positive relations between Cambodia and Australia.
Hun Sen described Australia Day as an important national event that marks the country’s history and the achievements of its people. He recognised the strong sense of national pride among Australians and acknowledged Australia’s contribution to peace, stability, and development in the Asia-Pacific region.
He also highlighted the growing cooperation between Cambodia and Australia, particularly through parliamentary engagement. According to the message, relations between the two countries have developed on the basis of mutual respect, trust, and shared interests. This cooperation has supported constructive dialogue and practical collaboration across various areas.
The Cambodian Senate President expressed confidence that ties between the Cambodian Senate and the Australian Parliament would continue to strengthen in the coming years. He reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to working closely with Australia to further enhance bilateral relations and deepen cooperation at both institutional and diplomatic levels.
Australia Day is observed every year on 26 January and commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788. Over time, it has become a national day that recognises Australia’s unity, diversity, and national progress. The occasion also allows international partners to extend goodwill and reaffirm diplomatic connections.
The message from Cambodia’s Senate leadership reflects a broader focus on maintaining strong international partnerships. Cambodia and Australia continue to engage through regular diplomatic exchanges, parliamentary dialogue, and cooperative initiatives aimed at supporting governance, development, and regional stability.
