Phnom Penh, Cambodia — Cambodia and the Republic of Armenia commemorated the 35th anniversary of their diplomatic relations on 11 February 2026, reinforcing commitments to strengthen bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and cultural sectors, officials said. The milestone reflects over three decades of friendly engagement and shared respect between the two countries.
During a working meeting in Phnom Penh, Meas Kim Heng, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, and Mnatsakan Safaryan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, highlighted the longstanding partnership formed since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1991. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress of cooperation and signalled intentions to explore new avenues for collaboration in coming years.
The officials noted that the anniversary provides an opportunity to review past achievements and map out future cooperation frameworks in areas such as trade, education, cultural exchange and tourism. Cambodia and Armenia have maintained diplomatic exchanges since the opening of embassies in each other’s capitals, and leaders from both countries have made high-level visits to bolster mutual understanding and shared interests.
Cambodian representatives stressed the importance of deepening cooperation in economic development initiatives, especially in sectors where both countries see potential synergy. While specific agreements or economic targets were not announced, both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing dialogue and establishing regular consultative mechanisms to support joint initiatives.
Observers said the anniversary underscores the value that both nations place on long-term diplomatic engagement, with discussions planned to expand people-to-people ties and institutional cooperation. Cultural cooperation, in particular, was highlighted as a foundation for strengthening understanding and respect between Cambodian and Armenian societies.
The anniversary celebration comes amid broader diplomatic activity in Southeast Asia, where Cambodia has recently engaged in various bilateral and multilateral dialogues aimed at enhancing regional cooperation. The commemoration with Armenia represents a continuation of Cambodia’s active foreign policy strategy to maintain and develop relationships beyond the ASEAN region.
While both countries acknowledged differences in geography and development priorities, they reiterated shared values including mutual respect, sovereignty, and peaceful cooperation on the international stage.
