Phnom Penh — Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MOEYS) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in the education sector to support quality, inclusivity and equitable access to learning for students nationwide, officials confirmed on Friday.
The pledge was made during a joint meeting between senior representatives of MOEYS and the ADB, which reviewed ongoing education initiatives and discussed strategic paths to enhance technical and financial collaboration. Partners said the discussion highlighted shared priorities in addressing current challenges and advancing the Cambodian education system.
ADB officials underscored the institution’s continued support for Cambodia’s education development goals, including efforts to improve teaching quality, expand school infrastructure and strengthen systems for technical and vocational education and training (TVET). These areas are seen as key to preparing Cambodia’s young population for future workforce demands.
The cooperation framework reviewed financing arrangements for existing programs and explored opportunities for new initiatives that align with Cambodia’s strategic education plans. Official statements from both sides emphasized the role of partnerships in delivering learning opportunities that are inclusive, resilient and responsive to emerging socio-economic trends.
MOEYS representatives noted that expanding access to quality education remains a national priority, particularly for rural and underserved communities. They stated that strengthened cooperation with development partners such as the ADB helps reinforce ongoing reforms and ensures continuity of support for priority programs.
The meeting also covered monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to better track the impact of education projects and ensure effective use of resources. Officials said that future collaboration will take into account evolving needs related to digital learning, teacher training and increased student engagement.
Both MOEYS and ADB reaffirmed their intent to continue regular dialogues and work together on expanding and improving educational outcomes to support Cambodia’s long-term development objectives.
