Phnom Penh, Cambodia – International non-profit Helen Keller International (HKI) has pledged continued collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Cambodia to strengthen efforts in promoting nutrition and food security nationwide. The announcement underscores sustained commitment to addressing malnutrition and enhancing public health outcomes across age groups.
The renewed cooperation focuses on expanding community-centric nutrition interventions, facilitating policy support, and improving access to essential nutritional services, especially in rural and underserved regions of the country.
Focus on Nutrition, Food Security and Health Systems
Helen Keller International, with decades of experience working on nutrition and food security issues in Cambodia, will continue to support the Ministry of Health in policy development, program implementation, and training of health workers. The organisation’s initiatives align with long-term national priorities to combat malnutrition, improve maternal and child health, and expand food security interventions.
Founded in 1915, HKI is a global non-profit dedicated to preventing hunger and disability by combating malnutrition and disease. Its Cambodia programme, established in the early 1990s, has been active in delivering nutrition education, micronutrient supplementation, and health-system strengthening support.
Strategic Importance for Cambodia’s Public Health Agenda
The renewed pledge comes at a time when Cambodia continues efforts to reduce childhood malnutrition, improve dietary diversity, and strengthen food systems. Malnutrition remains a concern in the Kingdom, with progress in recent years thanks to targeted health campaigns and multisectoral partnerships involving government, NGOs, and international agencies.
Helen Keller International’s partnership with the Ministry of Health is expected to bolster initiatives such as community nutrition screening, growth monitoring, and public-awareness campaigns on healthy diets. These efforts contribute to broader government strategies aimed at improving lifelong health outcomes by ensuring access to nutritious food and essential health services.
This collaboration also supports Cambodia’s ongoing work to align national nutrition policies with sustainable development goals and global best practices in food security and health equity.
