KAZAN, Russia — GAZ Group, a major manufacturer and exporter of commercial vehicles in Russia, wants to invest in Cambodia’s growing automotive sector. The decision shows that international confidence in the Kingdom’s industrial development is rising.
The company shared its investment plans during a meeting between GAZ Group Export Director Dolgov Leonid and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. The leaders met on June 18, 2026, during the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan, Russia.
GAZ Group Seeks Growth in the ASEAN Region
During the discussions, Leonid shared details about GAZ Group’s large production footprint. The Russian automotive giant has nearly nine decades of vehicle manufacturing experience. Currently, the company operates 15 manufacturing plants and exports vehicles to 43 countries.
The company makes a wide variety of vehicles. Their production lineup includes:
- Light- and medium-duty commercial vehicles
- Medium-duty trucks and public buses
- Ambulances and specialized industrial vehicles
- Automotive engines and spare parts
Leonid noted that GAZ Group already operates in several ASEAN markets. However, the company now views Cambodia as an attractive destination for future investments. He explained that Cambodia’s steady economic growth and improving business climate make it a great choice for cooperation.
“We see significant potential for cooperation and investment in the country’s automotive sector,” Leonid stated during the meeting.
Cambodia Welcomes Russian Automotive Industrialists
Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the automaker’s interest. He stated that Cambodia supports foreign investment through policy incentives and business-friendly mechanisms. Furthermore, the government continues to prioritize industrial development and regional supply chain integration.
The Prime Minister encouraged GAZ Group to conduct feasibility studies in the Kingdom. Specifically, he highlighted how Cambodia’s “Plus 1 Strategy” could benefit the company. This strategy encourages manufacturers to expand their existing regional supply chains into neighboring markets.
Economic Benefits: A successful partnership with GAZ Group could develop local automotive supply chains. Consequently, it would create new jobs and deepen economic ties between Cambodia and Russia.
To move forward, Hun Manet urged the Russian automaker to work closely with Cambodian ministries. These joint efforts will help identify suitable investment projects and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
