Strengthening Cambodia–China Trade Relations

The Royal Government of Cambodia, through the Ministry of Commerce, is actively showcasing the Kingdom’s high-quality products and digital trade advancements at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2025, held from November 5 to 10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Shanghai, under the theme “New Era – Shared Future.”

Contents
  • Strengthening Cambodia–China Trade Relations
  • Cambodia Pavilion Highlights Premium Products
  • Cambodia Promotes Digital Trade and Cross-Border Payments
  • Driving Cambodia’s Global Trade Vision

The Cambodia Pavilion was officially inaugurated on November 5 in the presence of H.E. Samheng Bora, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, alongside H.E. Wang Liping, Director General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce of China, representatives from the Consulate General of Cambodia in Shanghai, ministry officials, and private-sector participants.

Cambodia Pavilion Highlights Premium Products

Constructed in a modern architectural style, the Cambodia Pavilion features four zones — a Cultural and Product Display Zone, Performance and LED Display Zone, Business Meeting Zone, and Reception Zone.
These areas showcase Cambodia’s economic and cultural strengths through live performances, digital exhibitions, and product tastings of items such as cashew nuts, coffee, noodles, and fragrant rice.

Eight Cambodian companies participated this year, exhibiting fragrant rice, cashew nuts, dried mango, and Kampot pepper packaged for both export and online retail. Additional displays included silk handicrafts, geographical-indication products, palm sugar, Kampot salt flakes, instant noodles, jewelry, carvings, souvenirs, and other Cambodian-made crafts.

Daily cultural performances featuring traditional Khmer music and instruments further enhanced the pavilion’s appeal. The Ministry of Commerce focused on promoting products that meet international quality and hygiene standards, aligning with Cambodia’s goal to expand exports and reinforce trade cooperation with China.

Cambodia Promotes Digital Trade and Cross-Border Payments

While attending the concurrent 8th Hongqiao International Economic Forum in Shanghai, H.E. Samheng Bora highlighted Cambodia’s progress in e-commerce, financial technology, and SME support during a session themed “Propelling Global Economic and Trade Development Through Finance.”

He stated that the financial sector is the lifeblood of trade, as access to appropriate financing boosts production, connects markets, and strengthens confidence in global commerce. In today’s digital landscape, innovations such as cross-border payment systems and fintech solutions are transforming how international trade and investment operate.

H.E. Bora outlined several initiatives led by the Royal Government of Cambodia to foster inclusive financial growth and digital connectivity:

  • National Single Window and CamDx platforms streamline procedures, enhancing transparency and efficiency.
  • Support for SMEs helps entrepreneurs access financing and adopt digital tools to grow exports.
  • E-commerce promotion through CambodiaTrade.com and collaborations with Alibaba expand Cambodian products’ reach to global consumers.
  • The Bakong digital payment system, developed by the National Bank of Cambodia, facilitates fast and secure payments, promoting inclusive trade participation.

He also briefed the forum on Cambodia’s latest economic and trade developments, reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to building a connected, digital, and resilient economy.

Driving Cambodia’s Global Trade Vision

Through its dual presence at the CIIE and the Hongqiao Forum, Cambodia demonstrated a unified strategy to strengthen traditional trade while embracing digital transformation.
The Ministry of Commerce’s initiatives reflect Cambodia’s vision of leveraging innovation to expand exports, empower SMEs, and deepen bilateral cooperation with China — reinforcing the country’s growing role in regional and global trade.
