PHNOM PENH — Leading Cambodian rice exporter Signature Rice has achieved a historic milestone by securing the EDGE Preliminary Certificate for the country’s very first green rice mill. The official announcement, made on July 24, 2026, marks a transformative step forward for Cambodia’s agricultural sector and low-carbon manufacturing ambitions.
Issued by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, the EDGE Preliminary Certificate validates the sustainable design phase of industrial facilities under the EDGE Buildings standard.
Technical Standards and Environmental Impact
To qualify for the EDGE standard, industrial designs must demonstrate substantial resource efficiency over conventional regional baselines.
The recognition validates Signature Rice’s commitment to low-carbon, sustainable rice production aligned with stringent international compliance standards.
Aligning ESG Goals and Empowering Local Farmers
The milestone reinforces Signature Rice’s mission to foster an inclusive business model while building ethical, transparent supply chains. By adhering to comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, the project directly supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG 13: Climate Action).
“Operating Cambodia’s first green rice mill ensures our premium rice delivers quality while protecting the planet,” the company stated, emphasizing its goal to support environmental stewardship and improve rural livelihoods.
Signature Rice acknowledged key development and financing partners that enabled the achievement, including:
- The Agriculture and Rural Development Bank (ARDB)
- The Cambodia Climate Finance Facility (CCFF)
