SEOUL — South Korean green-tech firm BG Environment Co Ltd is eyeing trade and investment opportunities in Cambodia’s cashew industry, focusing on cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) imports and value-added bio-oil processing.
The announcement follows a meeting at the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Seoul between Noun Phanit, Commercial Attaché to South Korea, and Kim Ok Gyu, CEO of BG Environment Co Ltd.
Long-Term Processing Strategy and Bio-Oil Technology
According to a news statement released by the Ministry of Commerce, BG Environment’s strategic plan extends beyond raw materials sourcing to building a sustainable agro-industrial processing base in Cambodia:
- Initial Phase: Sourcing raw cashew nut shells and importing cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) directly from Cambodian suppliers. Khmer Times

Once approved by government authorities, BG Environment expects to leverage financial support programs from the South Korean government to expand its trade and industrial footprint in Cambodia.
Addressing Supply Chain Logistics and Trade Barriers
During the meeting, Kim requested assistance from Cambodian authorities to address logistics bottlenecks. Key operational priorities include:
- Customs Streamlining: Simplifying customs clearance and cargo inspection routines to lower overhead service fees.
- Freight Logistics: Lowering internal freight and transport costs for moving processed goods from inland production facilities to export ports.
