HANOI / PHNOM PENH —The President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, Samdech Khuon Sudary, commenced her three-day official visit to Vietnam today (July 27–29). Conducted at the invitation of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, the diplomatic mission focuses on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, expanding legislative oversight, and bolstering the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two Southeast Asian neighbors.
Expanding Parliamentary Diplomacy & Bilateral Integration
The high-level visit comes at a time when bilateral parliamentary cooperation is playing a central role in translating high-level intergovernmental agreements into legal and policy action.
Core Areas of Focus During the Official Visit
- Legislative Exchange & Governance: Exchanging best practices on lawmaking and regulatory frameworks to ensure smooth execution of bilateral agreements across various sectors.
- Economic & Trade Momentum: Supporting cross-border trade, infrastructure connectivity, logistics, and supply chain integration. Bilateral trade reached nearly $5 billion in the first four months of 2026 alone—a 9.6% year-on-year increase.
- Defense & Regional Security: Reaffirming the fundamental security principle of preventing hostile forces from utilizing either nation’s territory against the other, alongside joint efforts to combat transnational crime and maintain a peaceful border.
- Local & Cultural Connectivity: Fostering people-to-people exchanges, cultural relations, tourism, and educational ties between border provinces and municipalities.
Elevating Legislative Oversight and Strategic Trust
Throughout her visit, NA President Khuon Sudary is scheduled to conduct bilateral talks with NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man and pay courtesy calls on top Vietnamese leadership.
Beyond high-level political exchanges, the two legislatures are focusing heavily on legislative oversight. By ensuring that state institutions, regional authorities, and ministries closely monitor and execute cross-border trade and development agreements, both parliaments aim to create a predictable and favorable legal environment for trade, investment, and sustainable development.
