More and more people are starting to realise how important it is to recycle and how our lifestyles impact the environment. There is a lot of information about how the use of plastics and other materials has a big effect on biodiversity. Have you ever thought about recycling your clothes? These things are also easy to recycle, which is a big contribution to preserving the environment.

Recycling decreases carbon dioxide emissions because new products are made from used materials instead of raw materials that have never been used. Also, it’s getting easier and easier to help make the world less wasteful by recycling clothes, either with the help of the fashion industry that is capturing on to the trend or by using a bit more homemade methods.

Cambodia’s economy is blossoming. New businesses are springing up all throughout the country, in sectors as varied as information technology (IT) innovation, agribusiness, manufacturing, and handicrafts. As a result of government support, their innovation has flourished.

Selling products people love is always a good choice, but it’s especially great if those products solve problems or provide solutions. That’s why Cambodian business owners have used their creative minds to come up with products that meet the needs of the market. This helps them stand out from the competition.

Champa Chhuon is a young entrepreneur from Cambodia who discovered the joy of crafting during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her products are handmade, unique, and quality one-off designs made from small batches of materials. Most of her products are bags, and each bag is unique and creates jobs for people in Cambodia.

Champa started her business, “Champa Champa” an unique handicrafts company, amid a difficult period. She worked hard, grew her team, and created a solid business model to carry out her brand. She now sells her creations at weekend markets and owns a boutique in Siem Reap.

She says, “I was confident in my dream to design products out of used or recycled materials and help the environment, so I started this business. I love to make something innovative and artistic out of clothes. I would also like to encourage people to use recycled materials and support local entrepreneurs.

“Our mission is to promote recycled and eco-friendly products. Our products include tote bags, bottle holders, and even shirts! We promote our products to people who care about the environment and want things that are one-of-a-kind. We use recycled fabrics to create distinctive styles as per our clients’ requests.”

Why should you recycle your clothes?

First, let’s look at the facts. It is thought that about half of the recyclable materials come from business and industry. Overall, 65% of waste is reused, but industries and businesses can stop 2.8 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released by 2050. There are already a lot of big brands working on this problem, and you can start doing your part too.

Most of the clothes we wear are made of four main materials: cotton, wool, silk, and synthetic fibers. The first three come from nature, and the last one comes from petroleum. No matter where the material comes from, making clothes involves steps that can be bad for the environment, like making dyes, coatings, or mercerization.

When synthetic fibers like nylon or lycra are used to make clothes, their production has a big impact on the environment. These fabrics are just the result of a lot of complicated chemical processes that come from obtaining and processing petroleum. If they are produced in large quantities, this can help use up this resource. Recycling clothes is a good habit that can be very helpful in the long run. It can help protect the environment and keep limited resources from being used up.

Even something as simple as recycling your clothes is a good idea. This can help you and the people around you in many aspects and is a great way to make the world a better place.

Let’s come back to Champa, She concluded by saying, “ I would like to export my products worldwide and educate the globe on the environmental advantages of recycled clothing. My long-term objective is to increase our organization’s beneficial impact on the lives of Cambodians, especially women.”

“Lastly, young business owners should have a clear understanding of their personalities. While you’re young, engage in innovative activities and establish long-term goals. Following this, you must develop a business strategy and budget in order to grow your enterprise. To get the desired outcomes, one must put in more effort.”

Champa Champa is confident that a more eco-friendly fashion industry is achievable. That’s why the company has its own eco-friendly goals for a better world.
