Cambodia, a Southeast Asian nation best known for its rich history and stunning landscapes, has become an increasingly popular destination for travelers and expats alike. Whether you’re visiting for business, retirement, or education purposes, understanding the Cambodian visa process is essential.

Contents
  • Obtaining an E-type (Ordinary) Visa
  • Applying for an Extension of Stay (EOS)
  • Enforcement of Visa Extension of Stay Requirements

This comprehensive guide will walk you through the steps to obtain an E-type (Ordinary) Visa, apply for an Extension of Stay (EOS), and manage the latest updates in visa regulations.

Obtaining an E-type (Ordinary) Visa

When entering Cambodia, you must obtain an E-type (Ordinary) Visa, which costs $35 upon arrival and is valid for one month. This visa is often mistakenly referred to as the Business Visa. For most nationalities, no supporting documents or passport photos are required. It’s crucial to have the visa fee in clean, crisp USD bills, preferably exact change.

Upon arrival in Cambodia, it’s essential to tick on the immigration card or inform the immigration officer that you require an E-type (Ordinary) Visa, as failing to do so may result in receiving a Tourist Visa instead.

As of January 12th, 2023, the E-type (Ordinary) Visa can be applied for online in advance by all nationalities through the official website, www.evisa.gov.kh. Note that some nationalities have different supporting documentation requirements.

Applying for an Extension of Stay (EOS)

Once in Cambodia, you’ll need to apply for an EOS before your visa expiration date. There are several EOS categories available, with varying lengths and renewal options:

  • EB (Business/Employment) EOS: 1, 3, 6, or 12-month options; renewable indefinitely
  • ER (Retirement) EOS: 1, 3, 6, or 12-month options; renewable indefinitely
  • ES (Student) EOS: 1, 3, 6, or 12-month options; renewable indefinitely
  • EG (General) EOS: 1 or 3-month options; one-time use only, cannot be renewed in-country
  • EP (Proposal – seeking employment/business opportunities) EOS: 1 or 3-month options; one-time use only, can convert to EB EOS with necessary documentation
  • Only the 6 and 12-month EOS options are valid for multi-entry/exit.

Each EOS category has its own supporting documentation requirements, but the minimum requirements for all include:

  • A valid passport with at least 6 months of remaining validity from the EOS expiration date
  • At least two blank visa pages in your passport
  • One passport photo
  • A completed EOS application form (most agents will complete this on your behalf)
  • A screenshot of your FPCS details
  • Work Permit ( Depending on the situation)

EOS application costs via a visa agency vary depending on the agency and location. The average processing time for EOS applications is 7-10 business days, but you should allow up to 14 business days. For faster processing, you can pay an additional $70 – 100 for express processing (next day) through a visa agency.

Alternatively, you can apply for your EOS directly at the Department of Immigration (DoI) Visa Office in Pochentong, Phnom Penh. However, you must have all the necessary supporting documentation. The official fee for a 12-month EOS when applying directly is $180.

Enforcement of Visa Extension of Stay Requirements

As of October 17th, 2022, there has been stricter enforcement of visa extension requirements. Key points include:

  • Additional documentation required for the EB (Business) EOS, such as a Work Permit card, Employment Letter, and a company patent tax license.
  • Restrictions on EOS options for those without a Work Permit or employment letter.
  • Different supporting documentation requirements for those married to a Cambodian citizen or applying as a non-working dependent spouse.
  • EG (General) EOS is now only available for 1 or 3 months, with no 6-month options.
  • In-country conversion from an EG EOS to another EOS category is no longer allowed.

Navigating the Cambodian visa process may seem daunting, but understanding the requirements and staying up-to-date with the latest regulations will ensure a smooth experience. Whether you’re visiting Cambodia for business, retirement, or education, this comprehensive guide will help you manage your visa needs and enjoy your stay in this beautiful country.
