PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA — AirAsia Cambodia (KT) and the Cambodia Tourism Board (CTB) have officially entered into a strategic partnership aimed at boosting Cambodia’s tourism growth and elevating the Kingdom’s profile across key international markets, with a primary focus on India and Australia. The agreement was signed by AirAsia Cambodia Chief Executive Officer Nam Vissoth and Cambodia Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Kim Minea, under the witness of Huot Hak, the Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the Cambodia Tourism Board.
Direct Investment to Drive Joint Marketing Initiatives
Under the new collaboration, AirAsia Cambodia and the CTB will jointly invest USD 100,000 to co-develop and execute targeted marketing and promotional initiatives designed specifically for travellers from India and Australia. The first joint campaign commenced in May 2026, highlighting Cambodia’s cultural heritage, vibrant cities, natural attractions, and travel experiences to strengthen visibility among international audiences. The joint activities planned under this budget include joint digital campaigns, targeted advertising promotions, active participation in international travel expos, and familiarisation trips designed for key opinion leaders (KOLs) and media representatives from both target markets.
Seamless Connectivity via AirAsia Fly-Thru
To address the current gap in direct routes between Cambodia and these target markets, the marketing campaigns will heavily promote AirAsia’s Fly-Thru service via Kuala Lumpur. This connectivity enables transit for international travellers, allowing them to book their entire journey under a single itinerary, skip immigration processes during their layovers in Kuala Lumpur, and have their baggage checked through directly from their origin point to their final destination in Cambodia.
Leadership Perspectives on Cambodia’s Tourism Growth
AirAsia Cambodia operates as part of the wider AirAsia X (AirAsia Group) network, focusing on low-cost regional connectivity. Chief Executive Officer Nam Vissoth noted that the convenient Fly-Thru service via Kuala Lumpur seamlessly connects Cambodia to key global markets like India and Australia, allowing international travellers to experience a hassle-free journey. He added that the strategic partnership with the Cambodia Tourism Board represents an important milestone in their shared mission to showcase the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage, warm hospitality, and diverse tourism offerings to the world.
Cambodia Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Kim Minea emphasized the economic and reputational importance of airline partnerships for the country, stating that aviation connectivity plays a critical role not only in increasing visitor arrivals but also in shaping international travellers’ perceptions of Cambodia. Through this collaboration, the board aims to amplify Cambodia’s positive narratives and showcase the Kingdom as a dynamic, welcoming, and diverse destination that offers vibrant urban experiences, authentic cultural encounters, nature-based tourism, and warm hospitality beyond its world-renowned heritage sites.
