Cambodia and Belarus have concurred on a joint plan to preside over the Second Bilateral Consultations to be held in Phnom Penh in 2024. This development comes following a formal meeting that took place on 07 June 2024, during which His Excellency KHUON Phon Rattanak, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, hosted His Excellency Uladzimir Baravikou, Ambassador of Belarus to Cambodia.

The affable interaction between Secretary Rattanak and Ambassador Baravikou highlighted the significant diplomatic prospects shared between their respective nations. A mutual understanding was reached, endorsing the conduction of the next round of dialogue between the two Foreign Ministries in the third quarter of 2024 in Cambodia’s capital.

The bilateral consultations are anticipated to provide a strategic avenue for addressing a variety of pivotal issues that are central to enhancing the relationship between Cambodia and Belarus. The platform is expected not only to develop bilateral relations but also to advance cooperation on broader concerns that resonate on both regional and international stages.

The negotiators seized the opportunity to exchange viewpoints on diverse topics which are of shared interest and pertinence. Through such exchanges, the two nations are looking to develop a deeper rapport and a more concerted approach to handling both bilateral and global challenges.

By agreeing to host the consultations in Phnom Penh, Cambodia demonstrates its commitment to fostering a dialogue that could lead to more robust ties with Belarus. Similarly, the cooperation indicates Belarus’ interest in strengthening its presence and partnerships in Southeast Asia, with Cambodia acting as a central interlocutor.

Overall, the agreement to convene for the second round of consultations encapsulates the forward-moving spirit of both countries. The proactive approach to diplomacy and international cooperation suggests a fruitful future for collaborative efforts, which will be aimed at yielding mutual benefits and contributing to global peace and stability. The forthcoming event in 2024 marks another chapter in the growing partnership between Cambodia and Belarus.
