The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI) of Cambodia and the Ministry of External Affairs of India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Science Library in Ratanak Mondul District, Battambang Province. This initiative, implemented under India’s Quick Impact Project (QIP), aims to expand access to scientific literature and resources, fostering a culture of scientific inquiry and innovation among Cambodian youth, particularly in underserved areas.
The MoU was signed by H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of MISTI, and H.E. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, Ambassador of India to Cambodia. This agreement highlights the enduring friendship between India and Cambodia and reflects their shared commitment to enhancing scientific literacy and technological curiosity.
“This initiative underscores our mutual dedication to strengthening science and technology education in underserved communities,” said Minister Hem Vanndy. “As we move forward, MISTI will continue to build on this foundation and explore further collaboration opportunities under the QIP framework.”
Ambassador Vanlalvawna Bawitlung reaffirmed India’s support for Cambodia’s progress in science and technology. “This QIP project is designed to inspire curiosity, innovation, and hands-on engagement with scientific concepts,” he said. “We recognize the growing importance of STEM education, and this library will serve as a valuable resource for students, enabling them to explore, experiment, and develop a passion for science.”
The Quick Impact Project (QIP) focuses on implementing short-term initiatives to enhance access to science-based activities, giving children and young learners the opportunity to engage with scientific concepts in an interactive way.
Under the MoU, the Government of India will provide a grant for the project, which will fund the procurement of books, scientific journals, digital learning materials, and basic laboratory equipment. These resources will be available to students, researchers, and the broader community, facilitating exploration of scientific principles and technological advancements.
Ahead of the signing ceremony, Minister Hem Vanndy hosted a courtesy meeting with Ambassador Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, where both sides discussed future collaboration, particularly in connecting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups between the two countries.
