H.E. Mrs. CHAM Nimul, Minister of Commerce of Cambodia, held a meeting with the co-facilitators of the Investment Facilitation for Development Initiative (IFDA) on the sidelines of Cambodia’s 3rd Trade Policy Review at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, late last week.
The co-facilitators included H.E. João Aguiar Machado, Permanent Representative of the European Union to the WTO, and H.E. Salomon Eheth, Permanent Representative of Cameroon to the WTO, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
During the meeting, the co-facilitators provided an update on the progress of the IFDA and reaffirmed the commitment of its members to integrating the initiative into the broader WTO framework.
The IFDA is designed to help WTO members enhance their investment and business environments. It focuses on streamlining procedures for investors, facilitating ease of investment across sectors, and supporting business operations and growth among participating countries.
To date, 126 WTO members have joined the initiative, including 27 least-developed countries.
On the same day, Minister CHAM Nimul also met with Mr. Paul Akiwumi, Director for Africa, Least Developed Countries, and Special Programmes at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The meeting centered on strengthening cooperation between Cambodia and UNCTAD, with discussions covering upcoming workshops on rules of origin, Cambodia’s graduation from LDC status, and the development of the country’s Trade Policy Framework toward 2030.
