Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet recently articulated the significant impact women have had on the economic landscape of the ASEAN region, attributing its status as the fifth-largest economy globally to their crucial involvement. The remarks were made during his address at the Pinnacle Entrepreneur Forum and the 2024 AWEN Award, held on Thursday, August 1, at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra.

Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the instrumental role of women within both local communities and wider national economies. He pointed out their active involvement in creating employment opportunities, contributing to poverty alleviation, and ensuring economic inclusivity. Furthermore, their engagement in fostering economic integration on both regional and international stages has been pivotal in driving growth and encouraging innovation across national borders.

During his speech, Hun Manet highlighted that the forum serves as a crucial platform for exchanging ideas, building capabilities, and encouraging collaboration among women entrepreneurs. This gathering enables participants to refine their business strategies, augment their competitiveness, and share industry best practices. It also opens doors to a vast array of resources, expanding their network and market reach substantially.

Moreover, the Prime Minister lauded the indomitable spirit of ASEAN women, who continuously challenge barriers, pursue their aspirations, and assume leadership roles with confidence and grace. He remarked on the significant contributions of Cambodian women to the societal fabric, underscoring their role in fostering peace, harmony, and resilience across generations.

In his discourse, Hun Manet also shed light on the deep-rooted reverence and respect for women ingrained within Cambodian culture and tradition. He concluded by acknowledging the steadfast strength and nurturing guidance of women, which have been fundamental in steering the nation through challenges and enabling its prosperity.

The event and the Prime Minister’s address underscored the indispensable role of women in economic development and societal progress, not just within Cambodia but across the entire ASEAN region.
