During the high-profile 2024 JCI Asia-Pacific Conference held from June 6-9 at the Sokha Convention Center in Siem Reap, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet praised the efforts of Junior Chamber International (JCI) in fostering youth resilience. His commendation highlighted the critical role these initiatives play in the Royal Government’s broader human capital development strategies. Addressing nearly 4,000 delegates from 44 countries, the Prime Minister acknowledged JCI as a cornerstone in promoting positive community change across Cambodia.

In conjunction with the conference, Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated the importance of scientific advancements and technological innovation as pivotal elements driving human progress. This was underscored at the 20th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology, and Innovation (AMMSTI-20), also in Siem Reap. He stressed that embracing technology not only bridges geographical distances and enhances globalization but also propels countries within ASEAN towards becoming significant growth centers globally.

A proponent of sustainable development, Hun Manet emphasized the role of international cooperation under the theme ‘Rising Together’ during the JCI Asia-Pacific Conference. He pointed out that enhanced collaborative efforts are essential in achieving sustainability goals and combating the adverse effects of climate change. His speech also shed light on the necessity of a collective approach to tackle global challenges such as economic crises and new pandemics.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of adopting a human-centered approach to the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Speaking at AMMSTI-20, he called for a balance between technological advancements and ethical considerations, understanding that AI should augment societal values without infringing on privacy or rights. He pointed to the necessity for clearer regulatory frameworks and continuous public education to ensure technology serves as a tool for social good rather than a source of division.

The week-long engagements in Siem Reap brought to the forefront the interconnection between youth empowerment, technology, and cooperative international progress. Prime Minister Hun Manet’s leadership at these events showcased Cambodia’s active role in both regional and global dialogs, aligning technology and development with the holistic well-being of society and asserting their commitment to creating a resilient and sustainable future.

By fostering a dialogue that bridges the gap between technology and societal needs, Cambodia continues to prioritize not only technological growth but also the ethical dimensions of such advancements. This ensures that development is inclusive, benefiting a broad spectrum of society while aligning with global standards and aspirations.
