In a significant development, Prime Minister Hun Manet presided over Cambodia’s first Cabinet meeting on August 24, just days after assuming office. The meeting primarily aimed to discuss the official launch of the government’s Pentagon Strategy Phase I, setting the groundwork for its implementation.

Among the key agendas of the meeting were proposals for a draft law on the Ministry of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection, which would be renamed the Ministry of Inspection. Additionally, discussions centered around a draft law outlining the establishment of the Secretariat of Border Affairs, along with deliberations on the overall functioning of the 7th-mandate government.

During a live broadcast, Prime Minister Hun Manet introduced the Pentagon Strategy, which focuses on five critical areas: economic growth, job creation, equity, efficiency, and sustainability. He emphasized that this strategy serves as a roadmap towards Cambodia’s ambitious goals of attaining high middle-income status by 2030 and becoming a high-income country by 2050.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed his confidence in the new government through his official Telegram channel. He applauded the composition of the new Cabinet, consisting of young and intellectual leaders, and considered it a positive shift towards transferring senior leadership responsibilities to a younger generation.

The Pentagon Strategy is a comprehensive plan that aims to propel Cambodia’s development and prosperity across various sectors. It underscores the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth, generating employment opportunities, promoting fairness and equality, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring long-term sustainability.

This inaugural Cabinet meeting marks an important milestone in Cambodia’s governance, heralding a new era of leadership. Prime Minister Hun Manet’s emphasis on the Pentagon Strategy demonstrates a strong commitment towards steering the nation on a path of progress, ultimately realizing Cambodia’s vision for the future.

As the government works to implement the Pentagon Strategy, its success will rely on collaboration and participation from all sectors of society. This inclusive approach seeks to leverage the expertise and skills of young intellectuals within the new Cabinet, laying the foundation for effective decision-making and transformative policymaking.

The discussion and initiatives undertaken in this first Cabinet meeting set a promising precedent for Cambodia’s future. With the Pentagon Strategy as a guiding framework, the government endeavors to create a thriving economy, secure job opportunities, and enhance the well-being of its citizens, ultimately propelling Cambodia towards sustained growth and prosperity.
