The newly constructed Dara Sakor International Airport, located in Cambodia’s Koh Kong province, is set to launch domestic charter flight operations next week, according to a statement from a civil aviation spokesperson.
Sinn Chanserey Vutha, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson for the Cambodian State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), announced that the first domestic test flight will take place on December 26, connecting Phnom Penh International Airport to Dara Sakor International Airport. Mao Havannall, the minister overseeing the SSCA, is expected to welcome the inaugural flight on its arrival.
“This marks a historic milestone as the first-ever air travel service to the coastal area of Koh Kong province,” Chanserey Vutha said in a news release. “The airport will play a significant role in driving economic growth, boosting tourism, and fostering industrial development in Koh Kong province and Cambodia as a whole.”
Chanserey Vutha also mentioned the possibility of opening the airport to international charter flights based on demand.
Strategically located in the districts of Kiri Sakor and Botum Sakor, the airport spans 218 hectares in its initial development phase. The project, with an investment of approximately $200 million by the Coastal Airport Investment Co., Ltd., positions Dara Sakor International Airport as a pivotal infrastructure development for the region.
The airport is designed to handle 7 million passengers annually in the medium term, with plans to expand its capacity to accommodate up to 20 million passengers between 2030 and 2050. This development will complement Cambodia’s three existing international airports: Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, and Sihanouk International Airport.
The airport’s launch heralds a new era of connectivity for Koh Kong province, paving the way for enhanced regional integration and growth.
