During his official trip to the Republic of Türkiye on May 27, 2024, the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea, who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, alongside His Excellency Mustafa TUZCU, the Deputy Minister of Trade of Türkiye, participated in the Cambodia-Türkiye Business Luncheon. The event saw the gathering of representatives from over thirty organizations.
Addressed to a hall of Turkish entrepreneurial and corporate leaders, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the ample investment possibilities present in Cambodia. He pinpointed a collection of sectors ripe for investment including tourism, agriculture and its allied agro-processing industry, logistics, hospitality management, and the construction sector.
His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea vividly described Cambodia as an ideal portal for Turkish companies looking to penetrate and flourish within the Southeast Asian market. He emphasized the benefits provided by the expansive market opportunities under the ASEAN Free Trade Area along with the newer, extensive Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
The luncheon became a platform for both nations to reinforce their commitment to bolstering economic ties. In this vein, the Deputy Prime Minister’s call serves as an invitation for Turkish enterprises to consider the strategic position of Cambodia as a hub for expanding their operations within the dynamic and diverse markets of Southeast Asia.
The emphasis was on the synergies to be found in areas like tourism, which could leverage Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage; the agricultural sphere with potential for advanced agro-tech and processing; and infrastructure development, where Turkish construction expertise could make significant advances.
His Excellency also underscored Cambodia’s ongoing efforts to foster a favorable business atmosphere for foreign investors. He assured Turkish investors of the support and conducive policies that the Cambodian government offers, with a view to forge long-term, mutually beneficial relationships between the two economies.
The gathering underscores a step towards deeper economic cooperation and opportunities that benefit both nations. With Cambodia positioning itself as an open economy keen to attract foreign direct investment, events like this business luncheon reflect the country’s strategic initiatives to engage with the global business community, responding to the increasing interconnectedness of markets in the modern era.
