In a significant diplomatic gathering, His Excellency KUNG Phoak, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) Leader from Cambodia, co-chaired the 20th meeting of the ASEAN-Russia Senior Officials (ARSOM). This pivotal event, co-led with His Excellency Andrey Rudenko, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and Russia’s SOM Leader, took place in Saint Petersburg, Russia, from April 25th to 26th, 2024. This assembly marked an important occasion in the role of Cambodia as the Country-Coordinator for the ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Relations.
The two-day conference was characterized by comprehensive reviews of joint ventures among ASEAN nations and Russia, focusing on nurturing the three core pillars of the ASEAN Community. Furthermore, discussions delved into strategizing the future trajectory of ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Relations. A significant portion of the discourse centered around advancing the key areas outlined in the Comprehensive Plan of Action, a strategy aimed at fortifying the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership for the term 2021-2025.
In addition to examining the practical aspects of cooperation, the meeting provided a platform for exchanging perspectives on a variety of regional and international matters, spotlighting issues of mutual interest and concern. This dialogue underscored the shared commitment to deepening understanding and collaboration between ASEAN members and Russia.
The outcome of the ARSOM underlines a mutual dedication to enhancing the structural foundation of ASEAN-Russia relations. By focusing on collaborative endeavors that span across the political, security, economic, and socio-cultural spectrums, the meeting reaffirms both parties’ commitment to advancing their strategic partnership in alignment with the agreed-upon plan of action.
