Phnom Penh, 19 June 2025 — Cambodia and Malaysia are now more connected with the launch of a new direct flight route between Phnom Penh and Penang. The official ceremony was held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Phnom Penh and was led by H.E. Hout Hak, Minister of Tourism, at the invitation of the Malaysian Embassy in Cambodia.
Cambodia Airways announced that the new flight service will begin on 26 June 2025, with flights operating twice a week, every Thursday and Sunday.
Penang is one of Malaysia’s main business and tourist cities, and this new route is expected to make travel easier for both tourists and businesspeople from both countries.
Minister Hout Hak said the new flight route shows the strong friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Malaysia. He also said it reflects the good leadership of former Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and current Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, who have worked hard to grow Cambodia’s economy and tourism.
“This direct flight will bring more tourists and investors. It will also help people from both countries to travel and learn more about each other,” he said.
The new connection is also expected to support tourism, business, and cultural exchange. It will help Cambodia reach its goal of becoming a top travel destination in Southeast Asia.
With more flight options like this one, Cambodia hopes to welcome more international visitors and grow its tourism sector in a sustainable and friendly way.
