The strategic talks took place directly on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan, Russian Federation. “This year marks a milestone in our shared history as we celebrated 70 years anniversary of our diplomatic relations,” Prime Minister Hun Manet stated. “Over the past seven decades, Cambodia has attached great importance to traditional friendship and long-lasting cooperation with Russia. We always remember with deep gratitude the invaluable assistance and support of the former Soviet Union extended to Cambodia during our most difficult time in our history, following the immediate fall of the Pol Pot regime in 1979.”
President Putin warmly reciprocated these sentiments, describing Cambodia as a longstanding friend and partner. Furthermore, he welcomed the joint activities planned to commemorate the 70-year milestone and praised the steady progress in bilateral ties, noting that Russia attaches high importance to developing its cooperation with Cambodia.
