PHNOM PENH — Major Vietnamese telecommunications and technology enterprise Viettel Group has expressed a strong commitment to expanding its investments across Cambodia.
The commitment was highlighted during high-level discussions in Hanoi between Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sudary and Viettel Deputy Director General Do Minh Phong.

Strengthening Telecommunications and Socioeconomic Literacy
During the meeting, Do Minh Phong detailed the operations of Viettel’s Cambodian subsidiary, Metfone. The telecommunications provider has maintained operations in the country since 2019 and currently generates employment for approximately 40,000 Cambodian citizens.
Furthermore, Phong noted that the company fully complies with Cambodian regulations while actively investing in local social programs.
In response, Samdech Khuon Sudary praised Viettel’s global operations and emphasized the vital role of modern technology in everyday life. She explained that building baseline digital literacy is essential to prevent socioeconomic exclusion among citizens.
Policy Support and Growing Bilateral Ties
Viettel executives requested legislative support and policy cooperation from the Cambodian National Assembly to facilitate their expansion plans. Consequently, Sudary confirmed that the assembly will compile a formal report on Viettel’s expansion proposals for government review.
This development aligns with broader economic ties between the two nations. Vietnam currently holds 229 active investment projects in Cambodia, representing nearly $2.94 billion in registered capital.
Moreover, both governments continue to coordinate closely toward achieving a long-term bilateral trade target of $20 billion.
